Well today's post is going to be all about a day of fun for me and Daniel working together to build a fabric headboard for our bedroom. We did this a lil over a month ago and so I thought I would finally share it with you.
Let me begin by saying we already had some nice bedroom furniture but in the new house the size wasn't to friendly with the size of the room. It really limited our space. Plus we both really like the character added by the fabric headboard. So here is a tutorial:
Time: 2 1/2 hours
Supplies:
- Staple gun
- Carpet padding or foam (whichever you want to invest in; foam is around $40 for the amount you would need, on the other hand the carpet padding is around $0.48 cents a sq ft. So this is the option we chose)
- 2 to 2 1/2 yards of your favorite fabric (we found our lovely fabric at Wally world)
- 3/8 inch thick plywood cut to your desired size
- 2 Brackets for hanging (we got regular picture/mirror hanging brackets)
1. You need to decide the size of headboard you are wanting. Ours is 34"x 5' which fits our queen size bed nicely. Cut your plywood to the desired size.
2. Next cut your padding or foam to cover the piece of Plywood.
3. Lay fabric out and place the plywood down evenly on top of it, padding/foam side down.
4. Begin stapling fabric around the board, making sure to tuck the corners in and smoothing them out.
5. Once you have it covered, now you will need to place the brackets on the wood side. Make sure to place them evenly so it will hang on the wall straight.
6. Hang the other side of the bracket on the wall where you desire to hang the headboard and then attach the headboard.
Wala!! You are done! We plan to go back and add three tufted buttons in the center of the headboard but didn't didn't have the buttons at the time.
Pricing:
Plywood $10
Carpet padding $15
Fabric $17
Brackets $5
Total for a designer style headboard $ 47
I hope you'll venture out to create your own piece of art! It was fun to spend this quality time together making a piece for our bedroom.
Until next time,
XOXO
