Light of my life

9:13 AM

Recently we have ventured into our phase II of our house remodeling projects. The outside of our house has needed a little tender loving care since we bought it, but we knew the project was going to be a beast once we got started. So needless to say we finally jumped off the cliff and started the outside revamp 3 weeks ago and every weekend and pretty much every evening, with the exception of some, we have been working on it and still have a little ways to go. So the next few posts I'm going to dedicate to our recent house projects.

Today I'm going to share our most recent project with you. This wasn't really planned to happen this soon but due to the rainy weekend we just had it left us tucked indoors to see what we could get our hands into. We have been talking about it for a little bit, but decided we were going to put in four can lights, recessed lights, in the corner of our living room. Hopefully to add a little cozy element and some more resale value to the place.

Let me just stop for a minute and say without my wonderful husband we would either live in an outdated house from 1960 or we would be crying our eyes out from the debt we incurred getting someone to do our projects for us. He is definitely the man!! Haha! Hence the cheesy title! But seriously Daniel is very talented in many things and building/renovating is certainly one of them. Sometimes I just sit and watch in amazement the skill set he has in so many areas. Thanks babe! I love you!

Off of that soap box and onto the project I mentioned earlier. This was supposed to be a very simple project but nonetheless nothing is simple or easy in our house. Daniel had to install a new light switch by the door into the living room to connect the lights to, which was a bonus anyways because currently we had to walk across the room to turn the fan on but now it's right by the entrance doorway. This should be as simple as cutting a hole in the wall where it needs to go an then feeding the wire up to the attic. Well wrong-o!!! The builders of our house decided it needed extra support and put boards both horizontally and vertically. So handyman had to keep drilling holes into the wood with a huge drill bit until he had a hole big enough to feed the wire through.

Once he cut the holes for the lights and installed those in the attic, the next step was to wire the bad boys. And thank goodness other than him sweating 10 pounds off in the attic to get this task done, everything was on and working. This little project took about 8-10 hours to complete but I would say it was well worth it. Now Daniel on the other hand, he said I need to LOVE these lights with all my heart for it to be worth it. Which I do and I'm going to try to remind him quite often of it!!

So here are a few pics of the new lights, it is a little hard to get a good view of all of them so bare with me on them.

  1. Love the lights! That's exactly what we need in our new house. We just have the light from the ceiling fans. But, being in FL, we'll have to make this a winter project! Take care!
