Caught By Surprise
8:41 PMWow!! I have finally gotten around to starting this blog. These last two months have been a whirlwind of experiences. It all started one Saturday evening, November 12th to be exact, as I rode on a trouble call with Daniel. The call was in one of our favorite neighborhoods about 10 minutes away, so I didn't mind riding along. And when I say "neighborhood" I mean the old type, where a sector of 10 streets intertwine together creating a family of 1960s-1970s built houses, where on any given day you might see a fellow neighbor going for a morning jog or a mother out strolling with her children. Ever since Daniel moved over here two summers ago, we loved this area especially during the spring when all of the azaleas were in full bloom.
Needless to say after Daniel got finished fixing what a little squirrel messed up, we began to leave and head home but first passed by two houses that were for sale by owner. Now if you know us, you know we aren't from S.C. Our families are both back in GA, 3 1/2 hours away, and we wanted to end up back there. We know no one here and it was never our plan 5 years ago to end up here, but it was in God's plan. So we followed right along. We had been renting here for a little over 2 years, and had thrown the idea of buying a house around before but never seriously. It was always a little talk to try to encourage ourselves that we would be OK starting our lives here. I mean what girl doesn't want a house a home to decorate, entertain, and live in?!? Now I forgot to mention that this is also an area where houses don't come on the market often, even in this tough economy. So after first glace of the decent homes, I quickly asked Daniel to slow down so I could write down the phone numbers and give the owners a call. I had done this before on other houses and it was always fun to just simply call and have them tell me a price no were near what we could afford, and me end by saying thank you for your time and then hang up the phone and start dying laughing. This time I was surprised though. The first house I called on sounded perfect! I mean it had great potential and even better it was a GREAT PRICE!! So after excitedly writing down all the info and getting off of the phone with the gentlemen to tell Daniel about it, he said let's go look at it tomorrow. So I called the guy back and we showed up at 2:00 the next day after church.
Upon showing up, the guy selling the house was having a realtor come that day as well to see about putting it on the market with her. As we arrived, she proceeded to introduce herself. Of course, Daniel got a call not 5 minutes after being there to go right around the corner. So he went on, and I stayed to look at the house. Our soon to be best friend, Renee, proceeded to show me around the house and treat me as if I was her client all along. Not only was she prepared to sell the house, but she was prepared to give us info on how we could finance the house. Having a savings, but not wanting to deplete it for a down payment, that was our main concern on buying a house. But Renee told me about a financing plan where they do a matching of 4:1. Meaning we put down $1000, they would match that 4x up to 7,500. Daniel finally got back and looked over the house as well and I shared all of that good news with him. After getting alone for a minute, we were able to have a moment to speak about what we had so quickly begin to fall in love with. I asked Daniel what he thought and he said he really liked it and I followed. It needed a little work but it was all stuff we could do to turn this house into our home.
That's all for today.......tomorrow I'll pick up with more.
